Ben Tre Develops World-class OCOP Products

Ben Tre province has 265 potential products, categorized into six main groups in the One Commune One Product (OCOP) Program in the 2018 - 2020 period, according to the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development.

Specifically, for 1-2-star potential products, Ben Tre province boosts communications, changes community thinking of small, scattered production, stimulates locally typical advantages for active traditional product development; fosters production connectivity and community economic development like collective grouping, particularly in cottage industry development.

For 3-star potential products, provincial authorities organize training courses to improve management capacity, strengthen knowledge of production, business and marketing for entities participating in the OCOP Program; links and bolsters cooperation with trainers, researchers, experts and scientists on technological progress, production management, business administration, product development and commercialization, aimed at product upgrading and perfection.

As for 4-star potential products, Ben Tre focuses on developing and completing high-quality products and services by facilitating the application of scientific and technical advances and information technology to manufacturing, distribution and marketing to meet international standards.

In addition, OCOP stakeholders will be supported by the province to assess national OCOP products; and connect other local partners and units to become an important link to develop local product value chains.

The Ben Tre OCOP Program will be carried out in nine districts and cities, focusing on locally originated or domesticated products and services based on locally comparative advantages in ecological, cultural, genetic resources, knowledge and technologies. Six product groups/sectors will be developed: Food, beverages, herbs; souvenirs - interiors - decoration; rural tourism services; marketing; agricultural products; and other traditional products. By 2030, the budget for the program is more than VND267 billion, including over VND232 billion for component projects.
