HCMC – The Vietnamese market is now a preferred destination for Spanish beef producers and exporters thanks to its high potential for growth due to strong consumption and a demand for high-quality products.

Jose Ramón Godoy, international area director of the Argo-food Inter-professional Organization of the Spanish Beef Industry (Provacuno), shared the information with the press at the launch of the campaign “What Wonderful European Beef,” held in HCMC on April 23.

Vietnam, with its population of some 100 million and increasing beef consumption, is one of the main markets for Spanish importers, he said.

“We planned to promote beef exports in the Vietnamese market for three years by participating fairly in the market and deploying promotional activities with importers and the media,” he said, adding that this was the second year that Provacuno had promoted the campaign in Vietnam since November 2018.

Godoy said that Spain is one of the largest beef producers in Europe. Currently, Spain has over 110,000 farms, 300 abattoirs and 150 processing departments with output of 650,000 tons per year, and export volume reaches 175,000 tons per year.

In 2016, the World Organization for Animal Health recognized Spain as a low risk country for mad cow disease, so it was able to export its beef to many countries.

At present, four Spanish enterprises are licensed to export beef to Vietnam and seven others are waiting for the license.
