VOV.VN - The northern province of Son La hosted a ceremony on July 21 to unveil its recent decision to grant local firms certificates of trademark registration for "Son La longans", and export longan batches to the EU and UK markets this year.

Statistics show Son La’s longan output is anticipated to reach 98,500 tonnes this year. Of the figure, approximately 22,000 tonnes will be eligible for export, mostly to China, Australia, the United States, and Europe.

Amid the ongoing complicated developments of the COVID-19 pandemic, the locality has been active in connecting with major export enterprises, including Fusa Organic Agriculture Joint Stock Company, and Dong Giao Foodstuff Export Joint Stock Company, to select high-quality products for export.

During the ceremony, representatives from the National Office of Intellectual Property awarded certificates of trademark registration to 25 cooperatives in Song Ma district  of Son la province.

Representatives of numerous enterprises and cooperatives also signed a memorandum of understanding regarding the consumption of longans in future.

Hoang Quoc Khanh, chairman of the Son La Provincial People's Committee, emphasized that the grant of trademark registration certificate "Son La longans" affirms the reputation and quality of the province's agricultural products, thereby creating a solid foundation for Vietnamese longans to reach out to international markets in the near future.

Meanwhile, Nguyen Van Phuong, vice chairman of the Song Ma district People's Committee, revealed that the successful export of longans to both the EU and UK has greatly contributed to increasing the value of farm produce within the international market, while also generating jobs and income for growers throughout the region.
