10 years of building a New Rural area towards sustainable economic development in the Northern mountainous area

On August 3, in Hoa Binh province, the Central Steering Committee of the National Target Program for Rural Construction held a conference to summarize 10 years of implementation in the Northern mountainous region. Attending and directing the Conference, there were Deputy Prime Ministers Vuong Dinh Hue, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Nguyen Xuan Cuong and representatives of ministries branches and local leaders.

The Northern mountainous region consists of 14 provinces, accounting for 28.75% of the total national area with more than 30 ethnic groups living together. Each of which has a distinctive cultural identity. This is an area of ​​a particularly important socio-economic, security and defense position of the country. It plays a decisive role in the ecological environment of the completely Northern region with potentials and advantages, agriculture, forestry, hydropower, minerals, tourism and border economy. However, this is also an area with complex natural terrain, dangerous partition, poor technical infrastructure, slow socio-economic development.

Despite 9 years of implementing the National Target Program on new rural construction, localities in the Northern mountainous region still face more difficulties and challenges than other regions.

                       

Currently, there are 10/14 provinces approving the project, each of them has one OCOP (commune) by 2020 with 577 products. At the conference, Deputy Prime Minister Vuong Dinh Hue affirmed that One-Commune – One -product (OCOP) program is a program with a spectacular development, after just over a year from the deployment, the whole region has built 577 products, of which many famous products, high quality, reasonable price, are enthusiastically received by the market. “OCOP is one of the driving forces to bring new vitality to the new rural construction program.

On the sidelines of the conference, participants attended the exhibition to display products of 14 provinces and cities.
