42 Provinces Adopt OCOP Program

The National One Commune One Product Program (OCOP Program) with the overall goal of developing production and business forms in rural areas is a new driving force for rural economic development in Vietnam.

According to the Central New Countryside Office, 42 out of 63 provinces have adopted the OCOP Program, including 14 provinces having issued plans to deploy the OCOP Program: Tuyen Quang, Yen Bai, Thai Nguyen, Hoa Binh, Son La, Hai Phong, Vinh Phuc, Quang Tri, Thua Thien Hue, Binh Dinh, Khanh Hoa, Lam Dong, Tien Giang and Dong Thap; 23 provinces having issued decisions to approve projects: Ha Giang, Bac Giang, Dien Bien, Quang Ninh, Hung Yen, Bac Ninh, Ha Nam, Ninh Binh, Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Ha Tinh, Quang Binh, Quang Nam, Dak Nong, Gia Lai, Kon Tum, Long An, Ben Tre, Tra Vinh, Vinh Long, Can Tho, Hau Giang and Ho Chi Minh City; and 5 provinces having issued decisions on approval of OCOP Project and Plan: Ninh Thuan; Bac Kan; Nam Dinh, Quang Ngai and Lao Cai. By 2020, as many as 2,228 products from the OCOP Program from 42 provinces have quality standardization plans and projects, including 1,383 food products, 293 drink products, 185 herbal medicine products, 46 apparel products, 186 souvenirs and interior decorations, and 135 tourism services. Nearly VND7,480 billion was expected to be mobilized.

To date, four provinces have assessed and approved 200 OCOP products, including seven 5-star products, 66 4-star products and 127 3-star products. Bac Kan province has 37 products (five 4-star products, 32 3-star products); Quang Nam province, 15 products (four 4-star products and 11 3-star products), Lao Cai province, 10 products (one 4-star product and nine 3-star products), Quang Ninh province, 138 products (seven 5-star products, 56 4-star products and 75 3-star products).
