Preliminary assessment of Vietnam international merchandise trade performance in the first half of March, 2019

The Vietnam Customs Statistics announced that in the first half (01-15/3/2019) of  March-2019 , Vietnam’s total exports of  US dollars 10.95 billion and imports  of  US dollars 10.34 billion resulted in a trade surplus of nearly US dollars 0.61 billion. Accordingly, the total value of export and import turnover of Vietnam in the first half of March was US dollars 21.3 billion, went up by 18.6% as compared to the second half of February-2019.

Vietnam‘s trade-in-goods from January to the first half of March of 2019 totaled US dollars 93.6 billion in value terms. It posted a growth of 6.3% (equivalent to USD 5.55 billion) from the same period of  previous year. In which, the total merchandise exports value was up 5.4% to nearly US dollars 47.05 billion and the total merchandise imports value was up 7.3%, to US dollars 46.55 billion.

In the view of FDI traders, the value of exportation and importation in the first half of March reached USD 13.84 billion, up by 16.6% as compared to the second half of February 2019. Therefore, from January to March 15th of 2019, the total value of FDI merchandise trade went up 3.6% to US dollar 59.98 billion.

Export:

When compared with the second half of February-2019, export of  first half of March increased by 13.6%, mostly as a result of the climb-up registered in telephone, mobile phone and part thereof (up by 15.7% - USD 363 million); textiles and garments (up by 27.2% - USD 269 million); computer electrical products and part thereofs (up by 17.3% - USD 198 million); wood and wooden products (up by 39.2% - USD 123 million)…

Import:

In the first half of March 2016, import increased by 24.5% when compared with the second half of February, mainly reflecting the evolution of computer, electrical products, spare-parts and components thereof (up by 23.4% - USD 414 million); machine, equipment, tools and instruments (up by 21.8% - USD 258 million);  fabrics (up by 77.7% - USD 210 million); irons and steels (up by 62.5% - USD 180 million); plastics products (up by 39.7% - USD 78 million)…
